Flyash, because of its fineness and the round shape of its particles, is an ideal material when used in a slurry for grouting. Grouting techniques have been used for many years to solve coal mine subsidence and fire problems, but recently the projects have grown in magnitude. The techniques and equipment used in high-volume grouting are simpler and less expensive than those used in more sophisticated applications such as dam grouting. Many different mixes are used to suit different conditions. In this paper a few recent projects are reviewed to demonstrate the range of applications and methods.
