About GEO-Solutions

Geo-Solutions Inc. (GSI) is a specialty geoenvironmental and geotechnical contractor headquartered in New Kensington, Pennsylvania, near Pittsburgh. With roots dating to 1979, the company has grown from a regional geotechnical firm into one of the leading environmental construction contractors in North America. Following a 2012 merger with Geo-Con, GSI expanded its workforce and capabilities significantly.

GSI specializes in slurry trench cutoff walls, deep and shallow soil mixing, jet grouting, bio-polymer collection trenches, permeable reactive barriers, in-situ stabilization/solidification, and foundation services. The company serves industries including infrastructure, dam and levee repair, coal combustion residuals, mining, and manufactured gas plant remediation. To date, GSI has completed more than 1,500 projects across nearly all 50 states and over 15 countries, including Canada, Brazil, Japan, Ireland, and Australia.

The company employs between 100 and 200 people across offices in Pennsylvania, Colorado, Florida, and Toronto, Ontario.

Darin Payne

President & CEO

Darin has over 25 years’ experience in environmental remediation and geotechnical construction. As President / CEO, Darin is responsible for overall oversight of operations including key decisions related to safety, quality control, operations, and the allocation of company resources. Darin previously served as a Project Technician, Site Superintendent, Project Manager, Regional Manager, and Vice President at Geo-Solutions and other design/construction companies. Darin is well versed in all Geo-Solutions construction techniques, but specifically environmental site remediation, soil mixing, in situ solidification/ stabilization (ISS), engineered shoring, dewatering, demolition, and earthwork. Darin is a licensed contractor in CA, TN, and UT. Darin holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts – Amherst and has lived and worked in the Boston, MA, New York, NY, and Tampa, FL metro areas.

Dan Ruffing, P.E., BC.GE

Vice President
Dan has over 15 years’ experience in environmental remediation and geotechnical construction. As Vice President, Dan oversees various functions within Geo-Solutions including estimating, marketing/business development, IT, quality control, and project management. Dan previously served as Project Engineer, Project Manager, and Engineering Manager at Geo-Solutions. Dan is well versed in all Geo-Solutions construction techniques, but specifically slurry trench cutoff walls, environmental and geotechnical soil mixing, jet grouting, and other grouting techniques. Dan is a Professional Engineer (PE) in Pennsylvania in Civil Engineering (Geotechnical subdiscipline), a Board Certified Geotechnical Engineer (BC.GE), and a licensed contractor in WV, NM, NC, LA, AL, AR, and MS. Dan holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Bucknell University and has lived in AZ and KY and currently lives and works around Pittsburgh, PA. Dan has published dozens of technical papers in magazines, journals, and conferences on topics related to Geo-Solutions construction techniques, contributed content for multiple chapters of “Stabilisation/Solidification of Contaminated Soil and Waste: Practice”, and co-authored two industry reference books; “Fundamentals of Ground Improvement Engineering” and “Slurry Trenching: History, Uses, Fundamentals, and Construction”.

Mike Fisher

Vice President
Mike has over 25 years’ experience in environmental remediation and geotechnical construction. As Vice President, Mike oversees various functions within Geo-Solutions including project site operations management. Mike previously served as Project Engineer, Project Manager, and Regional Manager at Geo-Solutions and other construction companies. Mike is well versed in all Geo-Solutions construction techniques, but specifically slurry trench cutoff walls, permeable reactive barriers, environmental site remediation, environmental soil mixing (ISS), and jet grouting. Mike holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and has lived and worked around Pittsburgh, PA.

Rob Winters, CSP

Vice President
Rob has over 25 years’ experience in environmental remediation, geotechnical construction, and construction safety. As Vice President, Rob oversees various functions within Geo-Solutions including safety, insurance, bonding, contracts, and risk management. Rob previously served as Corporate Safety Director and Project Manager at Geo-Solutions and other construction companies. Though his focus is on safety, Rob also has considerable experience in Geo-Solutions construction techniques, specifically slurry trench cutoff walls. Rob is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and has previously had contractor licenses in Virginia, North Carolina, Arizona, Louisiana, California, and Nevada. Rob holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Safety from Slippery Rock University and has lived and worked around Pittsburgh, PA.

Pete Maltese

Operations Director
Pete has over 35 years’ experience in environmental remediation and geotechnical construction. As Operations Director, Pete supports the Executive Team in overseeing Geo-Solutions operations, specifically focused on major projects, key clients, and field operations. Pete previously served as a Project Engineer, Site Superintendent, Project Manager, and Vice President at Geo-Solutions and other construction companies. Pete is well versed in all Geo-Solutions construction techniques, but specifically bio-polymer and permeable reactive barrier (PRB) slurry walls and slurry trench cut-off walls. Pete was previously a licensed contractor in Louisiana and Virginia. Pete holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Penn State University and has lived and has lived and worked around Pittsburgh, PA.

Ken Andromalos, P.E.

Senior Consultant
Ken has over 35 years of engineering and construction experience in the specialty environmental and geotechnical field. He holds B.S. and M.S. Degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh, is a licensed Professional Engineer and holds Contractors Licenses in ten states. To date, Ken has published approximately two dozen technical papers in the areas of slurry walls, reactive walls, soil mixing, in-situ stabilization, jet grouting and other grouting techniques.

Ken has actively participated in some of the first U.S. applications of soil mixing, jet grouting and in-situ stabilization. His soil mixing and jet grouting experience dates back to the mid-1980’s. In the early 90’s, he managed one of the first in-situ stabilization/soil mixing projects for a USEPA lead remediation of a Superfund site.
