Toms River In-Situ Stabilization

Project Background:

Geo-Solutions, Inc. (GSI) was hired by Creamer Environmental to perform the In-Situ Stabilization (ISS) of approximately 49,100 cubic yards of contaminated soils at the Toms River Former MGP Site in Toms River, New Jersey. The work was completed in accordance to the project specifications prepared by Hayley & Aldrich, Inc.

Project Highlights and Challenges:

  • Approximately 49,100 cubic yards of contaminated soils were solidified via auger soil mixing.

  • 10’ and 6’ diameter augers were used to complete the ISS work.
  • ISS columns were installed using a grout mixture containing slag and Portland cement.
  • Target UCS was 50 psi at 28 Days (GSI average was 179 psi)
  • Target Permeability was 1×10-6 cm/sec (GSI average was 3.3×10-7 cm/sec)
  • 16 Verification Test Pits were completed after the ISS had cured to verify the quality of the soil mixed matrix
