Zero Valent Iron

services permeable reactive barriers zero valent iron bellevue2-wa

Zero valent iron, or ZVI, is one of the most common reactive materials used in Permeable Reactive Barriers (PRBs) because it reduces the ionic state of passing contaminants, in doing so degrading the contaminants to less harmful compounds that either precipitate out or flow through the barrier.  ZVI can also be applied to contaminant treatment zones using direct application via soil mixing.  In this application, the ZVI is pumped into and mixed with the soils suspended in a bentonite-water slurry.

Geo-Solutions has worked with ZVI in trenching and soil mixing applications for decades and understands the construction complexities of working with this material.
