Foundations & Shoring

Engineered deep foundation and earth retention systems for challenging subsurface conditions.

Overview of foundations & shoring

Foundations and shoring at Geo-Solutions include all techniques that provide structural support to buildings, slopes, or excavations that do not rely on the soil for a large part of the system strength. These systems are critical where the subsurface soils lack the strength to support design loads or where excavation support is required for construction safety.

Our solutions include auger cast piles, secant piles, and other conventional deep foundations techniques. We engineer these solutions for performance, reliability, and constructability. They can be applied to new construction, infrastructure upgrades, and remediation projects. GSI works closely with engineers, contractors, and owners to develop site-specific designs that optimized for the project site.

Solutions

Bearing Capacity Improvement

Bearing capacity improvement refers to methods used to increase the load‑carrying capacity of weak soils. Soil mixing and rigid inclusions are commonly used to improve bearing performance and reduce settlement.

In Situ treatment

In situ treatment refers to methods that treat contaminated soils directly in place without excavation or stabilization / solidification. Soil mixing performed with oxidants (ISCO) or reducing agents (ISCR) are common forms of in situ treatment.

Vibrated Beam

Vibrated beam refers to cutoff wall construction that relies on a beam inserted into the ground using vibratory insertion methods. After the beam is withdrawn, the cavity is filled with slurry or grout to create a cutoff wall.

technologies

auger cast piles

Auger cast piles refer to deep foundation elements installed by augering the soils out  and grouting the empty hole. Continuous flight auger systems are commonly used to install auger cast piles and the hole is often reinforced with steel in addition to grout.

grouting

Jet grouting is a blend of grouting and soil mixing where the soils are mixed with a grout using a high‑pressure fluid stream to create soil‑cement columns or panels. Jet grouting is a great tool for accomplishing stabilization or solidification in tight access areas, when discrete vertical treatment is required, or where there are subsurface or overhead utilities.
