Zero valent iron, or ZVI, is one of the most common reactive materials used in soil mixing because it reduces the ionic state of contaminants in place, in doing so degrading the contaminants to less harmful compounds. ZVI can also be applied for passive treatment of groundwater in permeable reactive barriers (PRBs) that are used to treat groundwater as it flows through a reactive barrier.
Geo-Solutions has worked with ZVI soil mixing applications for decades and understands the construction complexities of working with this material.
