Description of Work:
Geo-Solutions was subcontracted for the installation of a Soil Vapor Extraction (SVE) Barrier Trench in the Horse Pasture at Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, Georgia. Geo-Solutions installed the SVE barrier trench using the bio-polymer (BP) slurry trenching construction method.
Prior to the BP trenching operations, Geo-Solutions cleared stumps, constructed a temporary work platform, and constructed spoil stockpiling/loading areas. Post BP trenching, Geo-Solutions developed the trench by breaking the BP slurry and performed site restoration.
SVE Barrier Trench was constructed to a length 410 feet long trench will be installed to a maximum depth of 41 feet below ground surface (bgs). The trench was excavated with a Komatsu PC 450 with a custom long reach boom and stick. Geo-Solutions used a combination of Rantec H3200 cellulose gum and R-Mud bio-polymers mixed with water as the slurry for the BP slurry trenching. This combined “natural” and “synthetic” polymer slurry behaved similar to guar gum but provided significant performance benefits.
The SVE Trench was backfilled with #57 stone. Upon completion of the trench, Geo-Solutions assisted with extraction pipe installation and capping of the trench.
