  • Collection trench installation with an HDPE liner. Installed approximately 3,185 square feet of trench to depths ranging from 15 to 20 feet below ground surface.

Description of Work:

This project consisted of the installation of a single collection trench along the southern properly line bordering the Chartiers Creek. The collection trench is approximately 182 feet in length. The trench has a minimum width of 3 feet and was excavated to a weathered shale layer ranging from 15 feet to 20 feet below the existing ground surface. Following the excavation, a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) liner was installed on the downgradient side of the trench. The liner extended from the ground surface to within 2 feet from the trench bottom to allow continuous flow of unaffected groundwater into the creek.
Four PVC sumps and two monitoring points were installed vertically within the trench. The trench was backfilled to within 3-4 feet of the ground surface with the 50:50 mix of Type A sand and #8 gravel, and the bio-polymer slurry was degraded. The completed bio-polymer collection trench required approximately 3,185 square feet of excavation.
