Presidio, TX: Soil-Bentonite Slurry Wall Installation, Presidio Flood Control System
To protect adjacent property from flooding in high water events, a levee was installed along the Rio Grande River. During a recent high water event in the Presidio, TX area, several large boils were witnessed along with an isolated levee breach. To remediate the levee and ensure that a future failure would not occur, the United States International Boundary & Water Commission designed a soil bentonite slurry wall to be installed at the riverside toe of the levee. This phase was 3,000 lf at a depth of 25 feet.
Geo-Solutions Inc. worked as a subcontractor to Menendez-Donnell & Associated and was responsible for installation of the Soil-Bentonite slurry wall. Geo-Solutions custom long stick excavator attachment fitted on a Komatsu PC400 was used, along with trenching buckets with rock rippers, a slurry mixing plant, and piping.
The project was completed on time and within budget and with no accidents or injuries.
