Little Falls, NY: Jet Grouting, National Grid Former MGP Site
Jet grouting and soil mxing were employed in warehouse yard located in Little Falls, New York along the Mohawk River. The reason for the soiling mixing and jet grouting was to contain coal tar and other contaminants from leaching into the adjacent river. The project required that the soil mixed columns have a 7 day strength equal to or greater than 25 psi and a permeability less than or equal to 5 x 10-6 cm/s. Both the strength and permeability criteria were achieved.
For the construction effort, Geo-Solutions Inc. teamed with ARCADIS. Geo-Solutions provided technical assistance services to the contractor which included personnel, specialty equipment, and materials. The personnel that Geo-Solutions dispatched, included one full time supervisor who overlooked quality control of the work, an operator, and a laborer for the project. The specialty equipment included a Delmag hydraulic drill, a CIMA jet grouting plant, and a soil mixing batch plant. Geo-Solutions was also able to obtain favorable pricing on the cement and bentonite through its relationship with the suppliers. In addition to the personnel, specialty equipment, and materials Geo-Solutions conducted all sampling and testing of the mixed soils for production quality control. .
