Soil Mixing Equipment
Soil mixing equipment is used to create stabilized columns which, when joined together, can serve as barriers to groundwater flow, foundation support elements, fixation of hazardous wastes underground and numerous other purposes. The principals of Geo-Solutions have been involved in the development of soil mixing equipment since the first significant US projects, carried out in the mid 1980’s

Special Soil Mixing Attachments. These specialized bits are drilled into the ground as a liquid grout is pumped in to assist with the drilling process. As the bit is withdrawn, it continues to spin, mixing the soil and reagent into a homogeneous mass. The diameters of the columns formed can vary from 3-10 ft (1-3 m) |
| Soil Mixing Rig. Recently, soil mixing has been done more and more by purpose-built machinery such as the rig seen here. On this site in Nyack NY, coal tar wastes from a former Manufactured Gas Plant (MGP) Site were treated by turning the entire site into a stabilized treated block of soil. |

Soil Mixing Equipment for Permeable Reactive Treatment. On this site in Vint Hill, VA, a permeable reactive treatment system was installed using the Geo-Solutions soil mixing equipment. Reactive iron was added to the soil to complete the treatment of a buried hazardous waste. |
| Geo-Solutions Special Purpose Rig. On this site in Crescent Ridge IL, approximately 20 wind turbine generator foundations had their soft foundations stiffened up using soil mixing. Again the special purpose rig was used. This rig has benefits over traditional crane-mounted units in that down pressure can be applied and they are much easier to mobilize and set up. |

When combined with Geo-Solutions’ accurate and productive mixing plants, the soil mixing rigs shown here can create very accurate and homogeneous blended columns of soil underground.
