In situ Stabilization of PCB Impacted Soils
Utica, NY P-656
Project Summary
This project consisted of stabilizing soil contaminated with PCB’s. Geo-Solutions utilized our Soil Mixing machine with a large diameter auger to deliver a cement based grout to the existing soils. A pilot program (shown at right) was enacted to demonstrate the proposed methods prior to production which were successful and permitted the work to continue without delay.
Geo-Solutions stabilized soils from 12 to 35 feet below the work surface with the soil mixing machine. The soil mixing machine was able to penetrate the site soils with ease and mix them with stabilizing grout. Planned production goals and the project schedule were met without difficulty.
Geo-Solutions modern equipment and state-of-the-art machine monitoring equipment provided the client with a high level of confidence in the methods that were employed. Electronic controls and metering monitored the grout injection and machine operations. The project treatment goals were to lower the permeability to less than 1 x 10-5 cm/sec and increase the unconfined compressive strength values to greater than 100 psi. Production sampling and laboratory testing confirmed compliance with the treatment goals.
