Jet GroutingYDSS Interceptor Sewer Construction New Market, ONT
Project Summary
A new interceptor tunnel was constructed by the Regional sewer district. The tunnel was excavated using a tunnel boring machine and has six deep shafts over its 4.3 km length. At one shaft site dewatering was not permitted so double fluid jet grouting was used to strengthen and make the soils less permeable.
Geo-Solutions teamed with a local Contractor to perform the jet grouting project. The jet grouting was performed on three tunnel-to-shaft junctions. Shaft #3 had two treated blocks of soil with 354 jet grout columns and Shaft #2 had one treated block of soil with 191 jet grout columns.
For the construction effort Geo-Solutions provided technical and practical assistance, an onsite jet grout specialist/supervisor, an operator for the jet pump, and assistance with planning and submissions. Included in the technical assistance was specialty equipment and materials. Specialty equipment included grout mixing and pumping plant and all hoses, mass extensions and tooling to adapt to a Casagrande drill, and a jet pump. In addition to supervision of key equipment, the supervisor also provided Quality Control.
The jet grout columns were formed by the double fluid jetting system. The system produced columns that were more than 6 ft in diameter and meet all project technical requirements. The jet grouting project was completed on time and with no injuries or accidents.
Slurry Wall Dimensions: Three jet grout blocks requiring 729 cubic meters of jet grouting.
