Erie Landfill Remediation: Slurry Wall Containment
Project Summary
Soil Bentonite Wall Underground Construction in Mayfield, NSW Australia
 |
This project was a slurry wall containment around a building debris landfill. On several sides the alignment ran along the water's edge. The wall was installed in a salt water environment with about one meter freeboard over the high tide level. Because the excavated material was primarily waste materials, all excavated material was taken away for disposal and the backfill was composed of 100% import material. The perm spec was 1 x 10-9 m/sec and quality was assured with numerous grab samples taken from the backfill as it was placed.
Geo-Solutions teamed with the General Contractor and provided design mix services, slurry plant and long stick excavating equipment. The soil profile was waste fill overlying river sediments and the wall was keyed in to a natural clay at its base.. The project was completed with no issues.
