HDPE Vertical Barriers
Cody, WY: Bio-Polymer Trench Construction, Former Flying J Refinery
A 4 foot wide by 270 foot long by an average of 17 feet deep (4,590 SF) trench was constructed as a part of a groundwater remediation. The trench extends up to 20 feet deep to bedrock and within about 10 feet horizontally of the river. A HDPE sheet was installed vertically 15 deep into the trench as a hanging barrier. A 4 inch diameter, perforated, HDPE pipe was installed along the bedrock near the bottom of the trench. A clean, graded aggregate was used to backfill the trench. Liquid shoring via the bio-polymer slurry trench method temporarily supported the excavation, eliminated dewatering and speeded completion. The bio-polymer slurry was degraded at the completion of trenching.
